TEOMCROTE = TEOTWAWKI on steroids! The End Of Mankind's Current Reign Over The Earth takes into account that our ancestors were neither suicidal, stupid, nor our genetic inferiors but still wound up getting wiped off the Earth. Whereas CSER [cser.org: Centre for Study of Existential Risk] tries to PREVENT this dispensation from coming to an end, TEOMCROTE works from the eventuality/possibility/probability that the end our age takes place and what to do then

Square Foot Gardening

original post by jaypierce
Has anyone heard of square foot gardening? I have a book on the subject and I think it shows good potential, especially if we merge it with other methods such as permaculture, ley farming, bio dynamic farming etc.

Here is a link to get you started with SFG.

This is the most perfect example of permaculture i've ever seen! No bare dirt, no gardens, yet FULL of vegetables and large fruit. They also apply ley farming techniques.

in Changing Climate is an amazing 30 minute special on permaculture.

ley farming

this near-50 minute documentary (on the evils of oil-driven agriculture), at 21 minutes an example is given of one successfull farm where the soil is NOT turned over. About 20 species of grass are employed [at last count 45 were found], leaving a field where cows can forage year-round in the UK climate. The grasses create a mat of roots that is tough to get through and doesn't allow the cows' hooves to muddy everything in winter. Some grasses root deep and bring up minerals from far into the soil, whereas others root less deep and protect the surface.
This is basic ley farming, which was always about leaving pastures to produce superior grasses and superior soil, where subterranean life flourishes. Ley farming was historically how farmers achieved good soil; no NPK chemical madness, that this documentary does so well in reveiling as unsustainable and increasingly so.

Gardening philosophies

Ruth Stout's Garden

Administrator's comment:
This vid is worth the 23 minutes to view it. Ruth Stout is hilarious, inspirational, and informative. Some points made in the vid:
- just throw potatoes on the ground and cover with soft hay
- never need to till the soil, weed, water, or fertilize by leaving everything covered with mulch [she uses hay]
- she doesn't need to work past 11:00 and hasn't been to a supermarket in 14 years
