The Amazing Food Fact Machine launched by Natural News; reveals shocking facts about what you're eating

Our bodies are powered by solar energy, which we consume directly in the form of foods, which have collected and stored energy from the sun, or indirectly by eating the bodies or by-products of other living beings that ate foods, which had stored solar energy.
Our highly industrialized society has come to be powered by the same solar energy stored in the bodies of past generations of plants and mammals, which has been transformed into fossil fuels during the course of time.
Our dependence on fossil fuels as an energy source, how we get energy into our bodies, what it does there and what we do with it, are all linked together. Therefore, it's hard to just talk about nutrition without taking a good, hard look at how we live our lives and the whole picture.

"superfood", a relative concept


Recently Bob McCauley had an interesting post on his blog titled Faux Superfoods of the Raw World

Interesting remarks from his side.
Indeed, how does one define a superfood?

As i reply to the article [i won't copy-paste it here; follow the link if you're interested], the whole concept of "superfoods" has a lot to do with MAINSTREAM's approach to food in general. Compared to the mainstream, many foods still outside of mainstream might indeed APPEAR super. But how realistic is that?

Tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and string beans are foods that CAN contain immense amounts of nutrition but if they're grown in poor soil (such as what mainstream farmers offer their plants), they're not that nutritious anymore, i.e. not the plant's fault.

Grasses take up all minerals offered to them in the soil (which is why so many animals live off of grass, i.e. because it's bursting with minerals) and corn is a type of grass; corn grown IN ABUNDANT SOIL, therefore, SHOULD also be a superfood, but that's a big IF.
Consider the Tarahumara who live off of corn and corn beer [tesquino], able to walk marathons daily. (Good trick to know: when you plant a corn seed, bury a fish under it.)

Eggs from properly fed fowl and eaten raw can probably also be considered a superfood, a superior source of amino acids that can be readily used by the body. Boil them and you killed the enzymes in them, denature and destroy the amino acids, and probably harm the valuable fats stored inside.
So, egg superfood?
Egg, cooked: NO
Egg, raw and from a healthy bird: YES

Other superfoods:
Raw, unspoiled honey from bees that have harvested healthy flowers.
Coconut oil.
Oats + flax seed
