TEOMCROTE = TEOTWAWKI on steroids! The End Of Mankind's Current Reign Over The Earth takes into account that our ancestors were neither suicidal, stupid, nor our genetic inferiors but still wound up getting wiped off the Earth. Whereas CSER [cser.org: Centre for Study of Existential Risk] tries to PREVENT this dispensation from coming to an end, TEOMCROTE works from the eventuality/possibility/probability that the end our age takes place and what to do then

Here are a few temp. shelters for use at the ruin site, or actually in the valley.

Re: Temp Shelters

a friend of our's son makes yurts. emoticon I love yurts.

To be understood about the valley is that under most conditions such a structure should be fine. I wonder how hot it gets inside, though, especially for "the large amount of light they let in". I doubt it's a problem, though, and it would only be a problem in the really hot months.
One might forego focusing on the ruins for housing, especially at first, if one has a good yurt and doesn't mind living in one.
How expensive? A regular tent also might be enough and is a lot cheaper. I've had my cheap tent up on a ridge, i.e. the worst winds, and standing fine after i came back to it a week later. Keeping the tent taut is the key.

I especially like the The GroDome™. This could be VERY useful to keep out the worst of the heat and the wind.

Re: Temp Shelters

Yurts and Gers are cool, we looked into buying one for Portugal, alt, hough they can be expensive, but that being said if you are in a environment that is warm all year then in theory you could skip buying the felt liner which always generally bumps up the price.

I also like the idea of the shelter system 'tents', I would imagine that they would get warm, although it does state on their website that you can either site the tent under a tree or purchase a shade sheet that would help keep the structure cool.

I think both options have their pros and cons, but essentially the tents would only really be used for sleeping and relaxing and we could use other tents/areas as communal activities.

Just some thoughts.

pallet housing

Buy Plans for the Pallet House.
The average life of a Refugee camp is 7 years, with some exceeding beyond 50 years. There is a need for an alternative shelter to the typical tent solution that can transform a temporary living condition into a permanent home.
Pallet House by I-Beam Design, was conceived as a transitional shelter for returning Refugees.

Mors Kochanski Super Shelter

The Super Shelter makes use of different kinds of principle and material. Basically you're making a kind of greenhouse to sleep in.
