Heliography
The oldest photograph, 1825
Bitumen (asphalt) coating on glass or metal, hardened in relation to exposure to light. When the plate was washed with terpentine, only the hardened image area remained.
[Als gelatine reacts with light and the rest can be then washed away. (This is used for Woodburytypes.)]

Woodburytypes
Expose gelatine to light, dissolve unreacted gelatine; press this onto lead. Gelatine with pigment can now be pressed onto paper in the shape of the picture with the lead mold.
