TEOMCROTE = TEOTWAWKI on steroids! The End Of Mankind's Current Reign Over The Earth takes into account that our ancestors were neither suicidal, stupid, nor our genetic inferiors but still wound up getting wiped off the Earth. Whereas CSER [cser.org: Centre for Study of Existential Risk] tries to PREVENT this dispensation from coming to an end, TEOMCROTE works from the eventuality/possibility/probability that the end our age takes place and what to do then

weapons

See also: ]TECHNOLOGY, explosives & weapons

Unlike just about all so-called survival or post-apocalyptic forum and websites online, i DO NOT believe that defending against violence is important, let alone primary.
Having said that, i recognise the potential benefit that guns, for instance, can offer against certain wild animal threats, or against the rare random assault that PERHAPS couldn't have been avoided.

In the end, though, i believe that one is not only BETTER but actually WELL off by PREPARING against violence rather than REACTING to it.

My idea is simple: get a good dog. In my own mind the Rhodesian Ridgeback is the best dog, one that might be coupled with the best WATCH dog in the world: the chihuahua, as a complement to the Ridgeback, for the home.
A big dog will do just about all a gun will and some things extra, like keeping you company (which can be a big deal to a human being). Some things a dog'll do that a gun can't and vice versa. But... a dog is LEGAL and that goes along with LOW PROFILE...

Having said all that, one can imagine that certain weapons in certain conditions might be considered very useful. Hunting and emergencies might call for weapons at some point in life; it depends on the location, season, and situation. A person in good health [like the Tarahumara] can run a deer to death and it doesn't take a gun so that's just ANOTHER reason to get healthy. NOT having a gun, then, can cause a great motivation to achieving things you might imagine are just 'too much work'...
Anyway, here are some ideas regarding weapons.

pistol crossbows

Why the crossbow pistol [/pistol crossbow]?
Well, when yer talking 'survival', 'ruggin' it' and 'trekkin', weight is everything. So first of all, a pistol crossbow is smaller and therefore lighter. Therefore, it is easier to carry and/or conceal. That's a big win right there and then.

Furthermore, weapons in general are often more about frightening a would-be threat off than they are about actually damaging said assailant. Now imagine you had a crossbow pistol pointed at your would-be assailant...
'nuff said.
Now imagine you had nothing at all...

As for small game, they could be the difference between starving to death or survival.
Now i sometimes ride along on my bike in the early morning and i comes across some stupid rabbits; good eatin', but i ain't gettin' anywheres near these gritters [LOL] on foot...
Anyway, if i jus' had me a proper pistol crossbow, they'd be a'cookin' an' a'feedin' the hell outta me an my kin...
And all for what? Some littl' gadget that don't weigh nothin'...

80lb crossbow pistol
