One pretty well-known and much sought source of health insight and advice comes from a ]Dr. Mercola.
He says 95% of his patients are deficient in
Iodine
Magnesium and
Vit. D[url=[sign in to see URL]

So he just suggests everyone assume they're deficient in these things too. Other sources also suggest these are major problem areas and should be supplemented. As there are SO many supplements out there and we must choose from the thousands of choices we have, i think it's important to make a short list of things that we can accept are important for just about everyone and work from there. This is my list of 5 things that i think everyone not only should supplement their diet [live-it!] with but can do so safely:

Iodine
Magnesium vid on Mg deficiency
Vit. D3 [from sunlight] [also see ]Turmeric 3D
MSM
Vit. K2 (]codliver oil + butter oil)

After these, one can start thinking about supplements that will just about help out anyone as well, but more as immune boosters and such. Like

Reishi mushroom extract
Ashwaganda
Vit. C
Ginseng
Fo-Ti (Ho-Shou-Wu)
Deer antler

Generally speaking, there are few sensible supplements in the arena of so-called multivitamins and such that can be considered completely safe or sensible. The only option that i know of and might recommend is E3 Renew Me! by Earth's First Food but there must be others (and i'd be interested in feedback from you on this). The problem is, again, there are so many choices...

Vitamins should stem from the foods we eat as much as possible and if the regular diet is lacking [likely...], so-called superfoods should be ADDED to the diet. The nice thing about superfoods is that one doesn't STOP eating certain foods but, instead, STARTS eating nutritional things that gradually, pleasantly, deliciously, and naturally cause the body to become nourished and attain a new balance: superfoods.

It's important to understand about supplements of all kinds that THE HUMAN BODY DOESN'T ACTUALLY DIGEST ANYTHING; the bacteria and other microbial lifeforms in our body [more of them than cells in our body...] break down what comes in, layer by layer, passing on what's been broken down to the next of tens of thousands of microbial species, until it can be utilized by us and is assimilated through the walls of the intestines. That means that no supplement or vitamin of any kind will directly profit us, only ones that are generally supportive of life functions, for us and all of the bacteria that live in symbiosis with us.

A good example of whole foods that support health are probiotics, which should be eaten daily. One must, thereby, think of foods containing good bacteria, like cheese, kefir, sourkraut, etc. etc. ]Whole beers without hops [estrogenic] supposedly provide just about every vitamin there is [besides K]. At the same time 'bad' bacteria like Candida, shouldn't be supported by eating simple sugars, i.e. no processed fruit juices [packaged] and sweeteners.

I'm not one for spreading the idea of supplementation but Q10 keeps being mentioned by experts and might actually help some people. It could be worth looking into if you've the funds (since it's quite expensive).
If you ever do take Q10, it's good to know that it should be taken with Vit C, which will activate it and DOESN'T cost much, i.e. it's just stupid to not take Vit C with your Q10 since you'll be throwing away money and potential by refraining to do so.

For instance, ]in this vid at 3:45 minutes Dave Woynarowski talks about CoQ10 as one of 4 means to support preserving telomere length.

When manure was used for fertilizer, no one got sick. The reason for this was that the manure was rich in sulfur. In the 1930s, "the powers to be" decided, in a humanitarian way, that they wanted to help benefit the farmer. So, as benevolent as they were, they switched to the petro-chemical fertilizers under the guise that it would enable the farmer to spend more time planting seeds than shoveling doo-doo. The harsh reality was that the petro-chemicals created a cash "crop" for the petro-chemical industry and made everyone else that ate food, sick.
Coupling the petro-chemical fertilizers with the obscene over-processing of our food supply, which served only to increase shelf life and profits, it made our food supply completely devoid of the nutrient that was originally in the soil, which the manure provided - sulfur.

Dr. Hoffer died in 2009 at the age of 91, but he successfully treated many thousands of patients with high dose niacin for psychotic disorders.
He presented some very compelling evidence to support treating most psychotic disorders as a vitamin B3 deficiency.
Considering it is very inexpensive and has virtually no dangerous side effects it would certainly be worth a consideration for anyone who has a family member with this mental health challenge.

Researchers conducted a meta-analysis of ten studies that included 2,052 people set to determine the effect of folic acid on heart health. Past meta-analysis studies found in the journal Clinical Nutrition determined that folic acid lowers stroke risk by 12 percent, again by lowering homocysteine levels in the blood and reducing artery wall thickening.
The scientists found that daily supplementation with 5 mg of folic acid lowered homocysteine levels by 25 percent, providing a powerful shield against heart disease. The authors concluded "Folic acid supplementation results in significant CIMT (carotid intima-media thickness, a measure of arterial wall thickness) reduction after 18 months in patients with at least one cardiovascular risk." Nutrition experts recommend taking a full-spectrum vitamin B supplement (providing a minimum of 500 mcg folic acid and 300 mcg B12) along with trimethylglycine (500 to 1,000 mg per day) to lower elevated homocysteine levels and dramatically lower stroke and vascular disease risks.

I'm adding this because what i've learned from everything i've heard and read is that gut health is truly the basis for general health. People only marginally consider probiotics when it should be a top priority. They're really expensive (and the colostrum may not be cheap) but once a child's gotten the proper bacteria growing in it's body, they should stay with it for the rest of it's life (while lacking the same bacteria could be the source of many deficiencies that lead to health issues). Taking probiotics, especially the ultimate probiotic supplier i.e. colostrum, is really tackling health problems at the root.
