What i think will ultimately happen?
Pole shift? check
Solar electromagnetic pulse? check
Tsunamis? check
Volcanoes? check
Earth quakes? check
Nibiru? nope [though may pass by]
Ice Age? possibly
Solar blackout/nuclear winter? check [few years]
Galactic gamma ray burst? check
Nuclear confrontation? nope
Yellowstone eruption? possible
Vibrational shift? check
So what do all of these things together add up to? We're heading towards 2012/2013 [december 2012 TSreallyHTF] when cosmic radiation will cause the Sun, which has already turned white and brighter, into a so-called T-Tauri condition, as explained by Paul LaViolette in his book Earth Under Fire. That means that the pressure of cosmic particles, excited by the cosmic rays eminating from the galactic center, push into the heliosphere of our solar system, which has already decreased in size 25% in the last ten years [scientific fact], filling the void of our solar system with cosmic dust; this will pollute the void between us and our sun which will cause sunlight to become largely infrared instead of within the regular visible spectrum (as energy from the Sun charges the particles in our planet's atmosphere which warm up and radiate heat: infrared); the cosmic dust will be drawn into the gravity well of our sun and burn up, causing our Sun to expand and emit more energy but this shouldn't be seen as too dramatic; the burning of this cosmic dust nor the expanding of the visible boundries of the Sun should be seen as meaning that the energy coming from the Sun will be dramatically increased; it's like throwing a bonfire on top of a nuclear reaction: it could be a spectacle but doesn't really compare. In fact, the Sun may actually expand to about the orbit of Venus
but that still doesn't mean that we'll burn up or something. It just means that the cosmic dust is igniting and burning up and that the light reaching our planet may have a different characteristic for a few years (until the dust has all fallen into the Sun).
Extreme solar activity beyond all of this, like the electromagnetic explosions Patrick Geryl says are on the way, will be destructive to technology and through the effects of this, destructive to people (who won't be getting supplies when the system collapses) but are in themselves not so bad, especially if you're prepared for them.
However, if all of this solar activity is part of the reversal of the Earth's electromagnetic field, causing the Earth to start spinning in the other direction, then it should be considered very dangerous. If our planet stops spinning within the course of days, or even weeks [it appears to be about days], this will result in destruction because land, water, and air masses all respond differently to a change in the spinning of the planet and where they meet, they will clash; tsunamis will result where water mass meets land masses that don't move as quickly, and air masses will become megastorms as they keep moving while land masses come to a halt.
Obviously, all of this activity may result in new ruptures in the Earth's (thin) crust in the form of new volcanoes or the renewed activity of long-since 'extinct' valves, or maybe the over-due Yellowstone super caldera will go up. In that case North America is forfeit and the entire planet will be covered in ash from just that explosion [/those explosions] for years. Nuclear winter. The caldera, however, must be subject to such friction every 13000 years [according to LaViolette] and i haven't seen any definite signs that this supervolcano that goes up every 600 or 700 thousand years, though overdue, will choose to go up this time around. But !@#$ happens and it is THE 2012...
Nibiru may come around but i don't think it'll ever be more than a bright star in Earth's skies, mainly because it comes close by our planet every 4300 years or so and no great destruction took place every 4300 years, at least no polar shifts and the like. Nibiru's coming may be a political upheaval more than anything else.
According to Ivan Stein, scientific research strongly suggests that the next ice age is imminent. There are a few things to consider about an eventual coming of an ice age;
if the Earth does start turning the other way around, with the Sun coming up in the West after 2012, that means that the planet's angle to the Sun will cease to exist and seasonal changes will only be caused by the slightly oval orbit around the Sun but no longer because of the slant towards the Sun in summer and away in winter. The ice over northerly regions will reflect much sunlight and generally cool down the planet, which means that it'll be more like paradise around the equator, now worthless desert.
The moon will be at a different distance because of the effect of the Earth spinning in the opposite direction.
All in all, an ice age could be a good thing indeed for many on this planet, especially in the long run, though obviously not for life in the higher latitudes.
In the end, a few harsh years are to be expected and civilization worldwide is likely to collapse. That means that if you're not prepared, you're toast, but if you are prepared and can hold out for a few years, you'll one day be inheriting a brave new world awaiting the knowledge that you hopefully were wise enough to save as well as yourself.

(making it through) the 2nd and 3rd cut to surviving TEOTWAWKI
There are 3 groups on Earth dealing with TEOTWAWKI right now:
- those in denial
- those supplying and enjoying infotainment
- those who've transcended infotainment and are truly preparing (i.e. based on sound info and understanding)
The first cut (to surviving TEOTWAWKI) is to accept the information, logic, and common sense regarding it.
The second cut is to (access that information, understand it, and) accept it. Not accepting it and staying in the drama of info & insights that is infotainment isn't any better than knowing/getting nothing at all (and is potentially worse), i.e. the 2nd cut in itself won't save your life.
The third cut is to (accept what it'll take to prepare and) actually get around to doing it. This goes beyond collecting information, though it in part is about the choices of WHAT information one collects.
I myself have only partially made the third cut. My own life circumstances are fairly extreme [long story] or i'd be well on my way.
The 3rd cut is about cutting ties; it's about transcending the conditioning that's rooted in popular culture. (Spiritually speaking one might say it's about transcending egoity, but why go there?)
This sounds easier than it is. The actual ACTION of cutting ties brings up primal fears that normally lie hidden from consciousness. (Action does that; that's why the tantric life is so radically different.) These fears are uncomfortable and can really disrupt your activities and motivation. It's about moving into a very lonely mindset. You are what you meditate on and once you're on the path to surthrival, you alienate yourself from those who live survival. For intimate relationships this is fundamentally destructive. It can also destroy the peace you've enjoyed while making your salary/doing your job. Many areas of life can be fundamentally disrupted by living surTHRIval.
The greatest obstacle in making the 3rd cut is in accepting that the planet is nearly empty of people who will make it with you, who CAN make it with you. The answer to the loneliness, i believe, lies in reaching out to the few souls on the planet who share your achievement. If you CAN'T cut the ties that bind you to popular culture, if you're stuck building bridges, that means you haven't made the 3rd cut.
A group of people who've made the 3rd cut might set up a community that can then function as a base to which others might gravitate. A common mistake i've seen others make is to not get beyond the 2nd cut and try to convert others. This is obviously an adolescent attitude, remiscent of teenagers trying to change their parents [make them see the light...].
The 3rd cut, therefore, is about wisdom. After information and understanding comes wisdom. Wisdom is about transcending drama and getting around to appropriate action. It is rare in the world. I myself don't know a single other person who's even close to making the 3rd cut.
