pole shift & change of rotation of the planet
According to Geryl and Stein, among others, and according to not too ancient records claiming that the Sun used to come up in the West, the planet will quite likely change the direction of rotation in '2012'.
What does that mean?
1: Mega tsunamis
2: Mega hurricanes/winds
3: Mega earthquakes
Preparations concerning 2012, therefore, are ALSO about preparing against the above.
1 MEGA TSUNAMIS
High ground; look at previous destruction patterns. If you browse coastlines, Google Maps gives detailed ideas of destructive ocean forces that have hit the planet's shores about 500 times in the last 2 million years.
2 MEGA WINDS
According to wikipedia the planet rotates at the equator at over 1000mph or almost 1700kph; if the planet stops rotating and reboots within a 3 day period, as sources suggest, that means that the Earth's atmosphere will going 1000mph THE WRONG WAY at first, then it will be going relatively faster as the planet starts spinning 1000mph in the opposite direction. Depending on how quickly the winds lay down and adjust to the planet spinning below it, we're looking at possibly 2000mph winds. Considering that a level 5 hurricane is talking about 2 HUNDRED mph winds, that means that EVERYTHING gets leveled just by winds alone. Winds that carry trees and buildings like leaves, mowing down everything in their path.
Safest locations? Away from any big objects, on an Eastern slope, and preferably with an ocean to your West [like on Gomera], i.e. on a Western coast. If you're on an island, the smaller the better, that means less debris blowing your way from flora and buildings carried away by mega hurricane winds to your location.
3 MEGA EARTHQUAKES
The above will move the planet's crust like nothing mankind has ever heard of. The actual stop of the planet before it starts rotating in the opposite direction may actually be experienced as a jolt, causing anything higher than a meter to fall.
