TEOMCROTE = TEOTWAWKI on steroids! The End Of Mankind's Current Reign Over The Earth takes into account that our ancestors were neither suicidal, stupid, nor our genetic inferiors but still wound up getting wiped off the Earth. Whereas CSER [cser.org: Centre for Study of Existential Risk] tries to PREVENT this dispensation from coming to an end, TEOMCROTE works from the eventuality/possibility/probability that the end our age takes place and what to do then

(apparent...) good news

Finally... Solo Farmer Fights Monsanto and Wins
Monsanto has long been trying to establish control over the seeds of the plants that produce food for the world. They have already patented a number of genetically altered food crops, which can only be grown with proper license, and the seeds for which must be purchased anew each year.
But genetically engineered crops cannot be contained.
And rather than being found guilty of contaminating farmers' property, Monsanto has successfully sued hundreds of farmers for patent infringement.
Many farmers have subsequently, quite literally, lost their farms.
Percy Schmeiser of Saskatchewan, Canada, was also a victim of Monsanto's vile ways.
Schmeiser worked on farming and developing his own seeds for 50 years, and when his fields were contaminated, Monsanto threatened him, intimidated him, and tried to take his land away.
But Schmeiser refused to give in, and eventually beat them in court.

good news on the vaccine front

This is a mirror to a post under vaccines.

Don't Give This [Gardasil] to Your Daughter - Despite What Your Doctor Says

It's been four years since Gardasil debuted as a blockbuster vaccine with sales that rocketed to over $1.1 billion in its first nine months.
Touted as a wonder vaccine that would end cervical cancer, it was supposed to be the savior of both mankind and Merck's Vioxx-damaged bottom line. But now, according to CNN Money, it's a dud.
It just posted $219 million in sales. But in the pharma world, that's a paltry pittance, nothing short of an in-flight explosion that's caused Merck stock to drop 3 percent, with analysts and investors scrambling to figure out what went wrong.

The real reason Gardasil is a flop is that people have become educated about this vaccine. They've looked at the science and weighed the risks vs. the supposed benefits, and have made a choice not to get it for themselves or their children.
The word is out: despite what the CDC would have you believe, Gardasil's safety record is in serious question. As of September 28, 2010, the Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS) has more than 18,000 Gardasil-related adverse events listed in it, including at least 65 deaths.

McDonald's forced to say what they put in their products

McDonald's forced to disclose all chemical ingredients on food sold in Russia

A Russian consumer rights' group recently filed a lawsuit against McDonald's at Moscow's Tverskoy Court. The consumer groups involved in the suit say that McDonald's milkshakes are falsely named because they contain little milk.

McDonald's shakes don't deserve to be called milkshakes. Analysis of milkshakes sold at McDonald's outlets in Russia revealed the beverages contained more vegetable oil than dairy product. Experts at the Institute of Laboratory of Nutrition, say that by Russian law these drinks can be called "milk-containing" but cannot be labeled as "milk". Consumer rights advocate Mikhail Anshakov, says that the "McMilkshake" is falsely named, "They do not list the ingredients of their products which is a strict requirement for organizations of the type they are registered as in Russia. Moreover, their products contain excessive amounts of several ingredients, which is why the product name is insufficient."

Iceland is doing just fine

Why Iceland Should Be in the News, But Is Not

The 2008 world financial crisis was the coup de grace. The three main Icelandic banks, Landbanki, Kapthing and Glitnir, went belly up and were nationalized, while the Kroner lost 85% of its value with respect to the Euro. At the end of the year Iceland declared bankruptcy.
Contrary to what could be expected, the crisis resulted in Icelanders recovering their sovereign rights, through a process of direct participatory democracy that eventually led to a new Constitution.
[...]
Protests and riots continued, eventually forcing the government to resign. Elections were brought forward to April 2009, resulting in a left-wing coalition which condemned the neoliberal economic system, but immediately gave in to its demands that Iceland pay off a total of three and a half million Euros. This required each Icelandic citizen to pay 100 Euros a month (or about $130) for fifteen years, at 5.5% interest, to pay off a debt incurred by private parties vis a vis other private parties. It was the straw that broke the reindeer’s back.

pregnant women and babies

Home births have increased by nearly 30 percent since 2004

More parents are taking control of their birthing options by choosing home births, says a new study from the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention). Statistics released in late January say home births in the United States have risen by nearly 30 percent between 2004 and 2009.

"A lot of women really like the idea of home birth because they want a lower-intervention birth. A lot of women are worried about higher C-section rates and other types of intervention that happen once you go to the hospital," said lead author Marian MacDorman from the CDC National Center for Health Statistics.
Statistics from the study show that women with other children are more likely to choose a home birth, as are white women and those age 35 and over.

Starbucks opens chain of raw vegan juice bars
In late 2011, the coffee giant brought out Evolution Fresh, a juice company. Health foods now represent a $50 billion industry, and Starbucks has been very public about their intent to expand into the market and establish themselves as a major player. The juice bars will offer fruit and vegetable options which can be mixed according to consumer preference, or in tried and true menu options like "Spiced Carrot" - carrot, blueberries, and cinnamon - to produce natural fruit juices that are high in dietary fiber, vitamins A, C, and E, and antioxidants.

Judge says Americans aren't part of 'Homeland Battlefield'
7.5 min. news report by RT America
Another win for the critics of the controversial indefinitely detention law known as the National Defense Authorization Act. A federal judge has ruled that the US government cannot use the law to indefinitely detain Americans. This comes as a result of a group of activist and journalist who sued the Obama administration over the provision claiming it's unconstitutional and extremely vague.Carl Mayer, attorney for The Mayer Law Group, joins us with more on the case.

Indiana legalizes shooting cops?
13 min. RT America news report
In Indiana it has become legal to shoot a police officer if they unlawfully enter one's home. The controversial gun law is the first of its kind in the United States and has many law enforcement officials unhappy with the recent ruling. The National Rifle Association was a strong supporter of the so-called Castle Doctrine recently passed in Indiana, but could we expect to see an increase in these types of incidents? Mark Walters, host of Armed America Radio, joins us for more.

Lawsuit filed to halt US Navy's use of sonar that damages marine life
Five environmental groups have joined forces with an inter-tribal group representing ten Northern California American Indian tribes to sue the US government for failing to limit sonar naval training exercises harmful to marine life.
Whale species like orcas and humpbacks, as well as seals, sea lions and dolphins can sustain serious injury and even die as a result of the extremely high decibel sounds broadcast through the water. The lawsuit claims that the government has violated both the Endangered Species Act and the Marine Mammals Protection Act through its support of the sonar exercises off the West Coast.
